This installation references a now-lost local waterway and one of North Vancouver’s first pioneer families. A charming family history describes a newcomer’s childhood spent sailing homemade ships down a meandering stream. This delightfully innocent act is contrasted by the waves of European settlers arriving by transatlantic steamship, for better or worse, transforming transformed the social, economic, and ecological landscape of this place forever.
